Families Beware of Premier's Eco-Fee

“Make no mistake, the eco tax was Dalton McGuinty’s personal creation and brainchild. When he says he wants to create a simpler andeasier program for families, it just means he will find a way to bury it where families won’t notice they’re paying for it.”--Peter Shurman, MPP Thornhill and Ontario PC Critic for Economic Development and Trade

“There is just one way to be sure Dalton McGuinty’s eco tax doesn’t return from the dumps where it belongs, and that’s to elect a PC government in 2011. We will give families the break they deserve.”
--Peter Shurman, MPP Thornhill and Ontario PC Critic for Economic Development and Trade

Peter Shurman, MPP – Thornhill, Speaks at Cemetery Commemoration

“Aging is a fact of life. Pardes Chaim Jewish Cemetery ensures Jews from around the GTA a Jewish burial which is dignified and according to the laws of the Torah [Bible],” Shurman noted.

Pardes Chaim is on 200 acres, 120 acres of which will be used for burials. This should result in 70,000 to 90,000 burial plots. This cemetery is the second location of the Toronto Hebrew Memorial Park, which recognized in the mid-1990s that their Pardes Shalom cemetery would be filled to capacity by 2015.

No Giving Thanks for McGuinty’s HST-Driven Job Losses

“September’s job figures and spiking inflation rates are the indisputable facts behind Dalton McGuinty’s HST and his expensive energy experiments.  Rising prices and unaffordable hydro bills are already stretching families’ budgets to the limit.  The loss of 23,000 jobs in September just pushes Ontario families closer to the edge,” Shurman stated.

In August, Ontario’s inflation rate rose to 2.9% - the highest in Canada for the second month in a row.  Comparatively, B.C. which also imposed the HST in July, saw a 1.5% increase in prices.  A study by Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters estimates that Ontario hydro bills will increase by 41% by 2015.
