Legislative Page Program

Are you a high-achieving grade 7 or 8 student? Are you interested in being part of an education-based program at the Legislature in downtown Toronto? Would you like to work hard and meet people your age from all around Ontario? Join the Legislative Page Program and enjoy an experience you will never forget!

The Legislative Page Program at Queen's Park

An opportunity for Ontario's outgoing, high achieving, community-involved grade seven and grade eight students.

The Legislative Pages

Legislative Pages are the grade 7 and grade 8 students who work in the Legislative Chamber of the Provincial Parliament in Toronto. They serve a term of duty that typically lasts between 2 and 4 weeks and are granted a leave of absence from school during that time. Pages participate in the legislative process, act as messengers in the Legislative Chamber, meet with politicians and officials, learn how laws are made and how the Province of Ontario is governed.

Please note: The Legislative Page Program operates only when Parliament is in session.

Requirements

The Program is OPEN TO GRADE 7 AND 8 STUDENTS whose current level of academic standing is a Level 4 (80% or higher). Applicants must be actively involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities, both in and outside of school, show an interest in current affairs and get along well with both their peers and adults. Applicants must also be residents of Ontario.

Acceptance

The Program receives hundreds of applications for each round of selections. Positions for selected students are distributed between boys and girls who live throughout the 107 ridings represented in the Legislature.

Schooling

While at the Legislature, Pages are taught Legislative Process and receive various assignments to develop their language skills. They are also tutored in Mathematics.

How to Enter the Competition

Students who are in grade 7 or grade 8 and who meet the above requirements must request and complete an application package.

To request an application package students should submit their:

  • First and last name, complete home address (including the postal code), and home telephone number
  • Current grade and current academic average

Submit your request for application package by one of the following avenues:

  • by phone: 416-325-7457
  • by mail: Rm 191, Legislative Building, Queen's Park, Toronto, M7A 1A2
  • by e-mail: page_program@ontla.ola.org

An application package will be mailed to the student's home address. The most recently updated version of the application form is the only version accepted for entry to the competition.

Deadline Dates to Remember for Grade 7s

Completed application packages must be returned to our office by June 15 for the Fall session and December 15 for the Spring session.

Deadline Dates to Remember for Grade 8s

Grade eight students' completed application packages must be received by December 15 of the year they enter grade eight.

There will be no extensions to deadlines.

The Legislative Page Program at Queen's Park is a non-residential program. Students living outside of commuting distance to Queen's Park will need to secure accommodation during their term of duty if selected. Lack of accommodation at the time of application will not affect a student's eligibility for selection.
