Peter Shurman, MPP – Thornhill, Speaks at Cemetery Commemoration
Shurman helps commemorate the second location of the Toronto Hebrew Memorial Park
(Thornhill) – Peter Shurman, MPP was honoured to have the opportunity to speak at the grand opening ceremony for the Pardes Chaim Jewish Cemetery in Vaughan today. Mr. Shurman, who represents the riding of Thornhill, which is home to the largest Jewish population in the GTA was given the chance to see firsthand the second location for the Toronto Hebrew Memorial Park.
“Aging is a fact of life. Pardes Chaim Jewish Cemetery ensures Jews from around the GTA a Jewish burial which is dignified and according to the laws of the Torah [Bible],” Shurman noted.
Pardes Chaim is on 200 acres, 120 acres of which will be used for burials. This should result in 70,000 to 90,000 burial plots. This cemetery is the second location of the Toronto Hebrew Memorial Park, which recognized in the mid-1990s that their Pardes Shalom cemetery would be filled to capacity by 2015.
There are approximately 180,000 Jewish people who live in and around the GTA. Peter Shurman is proud to represent Thornhill and all of its residents.
