(Toronto) – Yesterday, Peter Shurman, Member of Provincial Parliament for Thornhill honoured the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust. September 12th marked the 18th anniversary of the groundbreaking of the Holocaust Memorial monument at Earl Bales Park. Peter Shurman was joined by Minister Peter Kent, MPP Monte Kwinter and former Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman.
Numerous families and friends joined the Holocaust survivors as they were invited to light a candle in memory of those who perished during the Holocaust. “It is telling that fewer and fewer people in the community and around the world are able to recall the atrocities that the Jewish people suffered under Hitler and the Nazis,” Shurman remarked. “It is so important that we take the words, ‘never forget’ to heart and ensure that we teach future generations of what hatred can do,” Shurman continued.
In all, there were over 100 people in attendance to commemorate the 18th year of the monument’s history. Peter Shurman proudly represents his constituents and advocates on their behalf to ensure that hatred and bigotry never happen again.
