Shurman Demands Liberals Commit to Vaughan Hospital
Thornhill MPP calls for date when shovels will be in the ground
(Queen’s Park) Today in the Ontario Legislature, Thornhill MPP and PC Critic for Economic Development and Trade Peter Shurman called on the McGuinty government to commit to building the much-needed hospital in the City of Vaughan. Shurman applauded the fundraising efforts of the Vaughan Health Campus of Care - a not-for-profit organization funded through private dollars that has worked tirelessly to bring a hospital to Vaughan since 2003.
“It is now seven years later, and how appalling that this Liberal government still hasn’t committed to building this hospital. This is the same Liberal government that short-changes the 905 region on health care funding by some $200 per capita,” Shurman stated.
The 2005 Needs Assessment Study stated the obvious - Vaughan is the only region of the top ten most populous regions in Ontario without a local hospital. Shurman pointed out that the land for the hospital site at Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 400 has been purchased and is ready to go.
“All that is needed now is a date for the shovels to go into the ground. Yet Health Minister Matthews has yet to even meet with the Vaughan Health Campus of Care. Vaughan has done its part. It’s time for the McGuinty Liberals to do theirs,” Shurman said.
