FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 22, 2010
(Queen’s Park) Yesterday Thornhill MPP and PC Critic for Economic Development Peter Shurman admonished the McGuinty Liberals for raising the cost of living in Ontario beyond the grasp of average families. Statistics Canada figures released yesterday revealed that in August, prices in Ontario rose by 2.9%. This matches the 2.9% increase seen in July, the first month of Dalton McGuinty’s HST.
“If Dalton McGuinty thinks this is all about politics, he is clearly in denial. It's about real people, real costs, real hardship, and real anger,” Shurman stated.
August’s increase in Ontario’s inflation rate is the highest in Canada, for the second month in a row. Comparatively, B.C. which also imposed the HST in July saw a 1.5% increase in prices. This is down from a 2% increase in July.
“Dalton McGuinty is completely insensitive to the cumulative impact that the HST, higher insurance premiums, energy and gasoline bills are having on people’s budgets. Families can no longer afford to live in Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario,” Shurman said.
