HST and the Fate of Hard-Working Ontario Taxpayers
Peter Shurman, MPP for Thornhill noted, "The HST is coming at a time when Ontarians need their government to support them and not hit them with another tax. Unfortunately, the McGuinty Liberals have been so hush hush on this new tax that it is impossible to understand their misguided strategy in bringing in a new tax." Shurman continued.
When asked what will the PC Party would do about the HST, Shurman stated, “McGuinty locked Ontario taxpayers into a four year deal. We can't touch that, but what we can do is consider ways to offset the punch to Ontarians, including adjusting the level of the provincial sales tax."

HST and the Fate of Hard-Working Ontario Taxpayers
(Thornhill) Canada Day will see the introduction of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and there is little that Ontarians can do about it until the next general election in October 2011. The McGuinty Liberals have locked Ontario taxpayers into an unbalanced, unfair and unjustified tax until 2015.
The Ontario PC Party is ready to lead and has some real ideas to help offset the HST. While McGuinty locked us into the federal rate of the HST, there is nothing in the legislation to prevent us from reducing the provincial sales tax (PST) rate or bringing in other forms of tax relief after 2011. This may effectively reduce the negative sting of the HST and give hardworking honest Ontarians the break they need and deserve.

On July 1, 2010, Ontario will harmonize both the federal sales tax and the provincial sales tax, increasing the total tax on most goods and services to 13%.
