Thornhill MPP Peter Shurman presented the Chabad Youth Network's Teens for the Community (CYN-TFC) awards in a ceremony held on Thursday at North York?s Petach Tikvah Synangogue.
Forty-five youth and teens from Thornhill and the Greater Toronto Area were presented with awards for outstanding work in the community. ?The world needs more youth and adults taking an interest in the wellbeing of their community," Shurman said at the ceremony.
CYN-TFC encourages youth to engage in various activities to give back to their communities in the Greater Toronto Area. Some initiatives involve becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, or befriending senior citizens in their local communities.
Rabbi Shmuli Nachlas, the coordinator of the Chabad Youth Network, has been active in inspiring teens to create, plan and carry out community social action programs.
Shurman spent the evening meeting with the volunteers, noting the dedication and spirit they bring to their community outreach activities.
