MPP, Peter Shurman Encourages Ontario Families to Enjoy Long Weekend Before New Liberal Tax Kicks In
As of July 1, 2010, Liberal HST applied to holidays in Ontario
{Thornhill}: PC MPP, Peter Shurman, Thornhill today encouraged local families to enjoy Ontario?s last May 24th long weekend before Dalton McGuinty?s HST tax grab drives up the cost of travel, hospitality, and recreation services throughout Ontario.
On July 1st the HST will increase the price of hotel and motel rooms, camping fees, airline, bus and rail tickets, theatre tickets, guide services, golf green fees, bicycle rentals and sports registration for children and youth throughout Ontario.
In addition, Ontarians will see an increase in gasoline prices dues to the HST. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has confirmed that the HST will force the typical Ontario family to pay an extra $246 more per year in higher prices at the pump.

- A June 2009 Ontario Accommodation Association survey of 800 Ontario innkeepers confirmed that ?the effect of the HST will be increased costs to consumers, especially in our tourism industry. This would discourage tourism just as the worst recession in decades ends?
