Thornhill Residents Hit By Surprise Implementation of the HST this Past Weekend

Peter Shurman, MPP for Thornhill and PC Critic for Economic Development and Trade asked, ?McGuinty refused to hold public debate on the HST and now he surprises us with this early implementation of the HST? Do the McGuinty Liberals really think they can get away with this sneak attack on Thornhill families and seniors??

?This latest rate increase combined with the HST and other hidden fees will add $350 to the average family?s annual electricity bill by the end of next year.  There is just no end in sight to the McGuinty Liberals? assault on the pocketbooks of Ontario families and seniors? Shurman said.

Thornhill Residents Hit By Surprise Implementation of the HST this Past Weekend

(Thornhill) ? This past weekend Thornhill residents were shocked to learn that the McGuinty government had quietly implemented the HST on selected goods and services. An extra 8% was charged on goods and services that were purchased on the weekend but will be delivered after July 1st, such as home purchases, landscaping contracts and airline tickets.

In addition to the surprise implementation of the HST this past weekend, Thornhill residents are also faced with a 12% increase on their hydro rates effective May 1st.  According to the Liberal government?s own conservative estimates, this single rate increase will cost Ontario families an additional $91.20 more per year.

?This latest rate increase combined with the HST and other hidden fees will add $350 to the average family?s annual electricity bill by the end of next year.  There is just no end in sight to the McGuinty Liberals? assault on the pocketbooks of Ontario families and seniors? Shurman said.
