HST Tax Collectors Collect $25 Million in Severance
PC Critic for Economic Development and Trade questions $25 million severance to people who are not even losing their jobs

?Ontario families have been taken advantage of for the last time; this government has to answer as to why they are paying a severance to ministry tax collectors when they are not even missing one day of work; especially when hundreds of Ontarians are still dealing with a lack of adequate funding in our hospitals and other social services,? stated Peter Shurman, MPP for Thornhill.

?The Liberal government cannot keep its story straight on how many jobs have gone to foreign markets, yet they have no problem tossing Ontario?s hard earned money to tax collectors for moving offices and printing new business cards,? noted Shurman. He continued, ?When will this Premier finally show some respect for Ontario families and tell us how his $3 billion HST is going to be revenue neutral? It?s already costing taxpayers $25 million, even before this new tax grab is implemented!?

HST Tax Collectors Collect $25 Million in Severance
PC Critic for Economic Development and Trade questions $25 million severance to people who are not even losing their jobs

(Thornhill): While Ontario families and seniors prepare for the onslaught that is the HST on July 1st McGuinty?s tax collectors are preparing to collect their hefty $25 million severance from Ontario taxpayers.

Under the $3 billion HST tax grab, 1,250 Ontario Ministry of Revenue tax collectors will be paid up to $45,000 each only to leave one office and move a few doors down to resume the same job at the federal level. In these tough economic times it is appalling that this Liberal government continues to enter into sweetheart deals and misspend Ontarians? hard earned tax dollars.

The 2010 Ontario budget was an opportunity for Dalton McGuinty to demonstrate to the hardworking people of Ontario that the Liberal government respects the sacrifices and struggles that Ontarians have had to make during these challenging economic times. The Premier needs to do the right thing and return the $25 million back to the families of this province and stop entering into these sweetheart deals that are crippling Ontario.
