Thornhill MPP says economic recovery far from Ontario?s horizon

Mar 12, 2010

?With Ontario?s unemployment rate remaining unchanged in February, Ontario?s economy remains sluggish. Just ask the over 500 people who are losing their jobs at the Siemens plant in Hamilton,? said Shurman.

?The loss of good paying jobs for these 500 Ontario families is yet another result of Dalton McGuinty?s failure to create a business climate in Ontario that is friendly to employers.  We in the PC Caucus believe that the best way to create and sustain good private sector jobs is to make Ontario a place where businesses want to locate and take advantage of a good labour force.  Companies, like Siemens, are not prepared to do that because of the unattractive conditions created by this Premier.  No one said that economic recovery was easy. So you have to wonder why Dalton McGuinty would make it that much harder.? Shurman concluded.

McGuinty Exports More Jobs Out of Ontario

Thornhill MPP says economic recovery far from Ontario?s horizon

(Queen?s Park) ? Thornhill MPP and PC Critic for Economic Development, Peter Shurman warned that today?s flat employment figures are bad news for Ontario families.

?With Ontario?s unemployment rate remaining unchanged in February, Ontario?s economy remains sluggish. Just ask the over 500 people who are losing their jobs at the Siemens plant in Hamilton,? said Shurman.

Shurman was referring to the announcement yesterday by Siemens that it will be shutting down its plant in Hamilton and moving its operations to North Carolina.  The Hamilton plant, established in 1896, currently employs over 500 people.
