(Queen?s Park) ? Peter Shurman, M.P.P. (Thornhill) moves to the Economic Development and Trade critic portfolio as the Leader of the Official Opposition, Tim Hudak (MPP Niagara West - Glanbrook), appoints a new shadow cabinet.
?Ontario?s economic potential has been underutilized by the McGuinty government. My focus as critic for the Economic Development and Trade portfolio will be to ensure that this government implements incentives that will encourage foreign and domestic investment and create new opportunities for Ontarians,? Shurman explained. ?I look forward to the challenges ahead and to working with the Progressive Conservative Caucus toward a more prosperous future for Ontarians,? said Shurman.
Ontario?s economy has crumbled as the McGuinty government failed to implement an effective plan to prepare the province for a world-wide economic downturn. As a result, Ontario has become a have not province and is lagging behind other Canadian jurisdictions, loosing employment, investment opportunities and creating uncertainty for Ontario?s families.
?Our Caucus will provide a principled conservative plan and a winning alternative to the failed leadership of the McGuinty Liberals,? said Hudak. ?"The people of Thornhill are fortunate to have an MPP of the caliber of Peter Shurman representing them in the Ontario Legislature, and I am looking forward to working with Peter as the critic and to expanding our Party together as we work toward victory in 2011.?
Shurman will remain the Francophone Affairs critic while taking on the new responsibility of Economic Development and Trade portfolio.
