FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 26, 2008
Queen?s Park Peter Shurman, M.P.P (Thornhill) joined the Facebook group Young Drivers Against New Ontario Laws on Wednesday, in support of young people who are under attack from the McGuinty government.
?Dalton McGuinty wants to create two classes of citizens and punish responsible drivers for the mistakes of others. McGuinty is telling our young people that they can vote and they can die for their country in Afghanistan but they are not responsible enough to drive with their friends to a hockey game. There is no logic to this,? Shurman said on Wednesday.
Shurman also noted that existing legislation already makes it illegal to drive under the influence of alcohol.
?Once you reach the age of 19 you are given all the rights and privileges of an adult.
You, rightfully, lose those privileges IF you abuse them. Not because you are 21 and under. I will not support this legislation. It is an unjustified interference of the McGuinty nanny-statist government into the lives of Ontarians. It?s not his job to raise other people?s children,? Shurman added.
