Hundreds of York University students gathered this morning at Vari Hall to voice their frustration with the ongoing strike.
"I came to Canada to be educated," law student Veronica Fynn said.
"Whether it's the university or CUPE, I don't care. When someone
interferes with my education, it really gets gets to my soul because
it's the only factor that's brought me to this level in my life."
Organized by yorknothostage.com and the Anti-Strike Group, the students are pushing for binding arbitration as a solution.
"We say that this strike is against us, the students," said Nora
Kharouba, a 19-year-old psychology student and spokesman for the event.
"We are the ones most affected by the strike and yet we don't have a voice."
Thornhill MPP Peter Shurman said he would give students a voice at the
legislature by bringing their views to the attention of Premier Dalton
McGuinty.
Another rally organized by the student unions of York and University of
Toronto to support the workers is set for noon today at the Keele St.
Main entrance.
