(Queen?s Park): Thornhill Progressive Conservative MPP Peter Shurman discovered today that there is more than meets the eye in regards to recently announced changes to the province?s Land Transfer Tax Refund Program.
During his December 13th, Fall Economic Statement, Liberal Finance Minister Dwight Duncan announced that as of midnight December 14, first-time buyers of resale and newly constructed homes would be eligible for a $2,000 refund from the provincial Land Transfer Tax.
?Minister Duncan and the McGuinty government neglected to inform Ontarians that the legislation necessary to bring the promised changes into effect has yet to be passed by the Legislature,? said Shurman.
?The Finance Minister said it would be effective December 13th at midnight. That is not true. It may be retroactively effective to that date at some point in the future; however, as of today those changes have not been enacted. This government is well known for deceiving Ontarians, and this is yet another example of their tradition,? stated Shurman.
