On October
10, 2007 Peter Shurman was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as
the Member of Provincial Parliament for Thornhill.
If
you have listened to Toronto Talk Radio, Peter Shurman may be a familiar name
to you. After a successful career in corporate and small business, Peter
re-invented himself on NewsTalk 1010 CFRB as a talk radio host in 2004. He
gained popularity as an entertaining and outspoken radio personality who
tackled emerging political and social issues with creativity and imagination,
before deciding to enter the political arena as a Progressive Conservative
candidate in 2007.
Peter is a committed volunteer for many worthy community
causes. For several years, he was a broadcaster at the Radiothon for Sick Kids Foundation,
helping to raise millions of dollars each year for the Hospital. He was the
signature voice for VoicePrint - a
charity, which reads the news and other printed materials for over four million
vision-impaired Canadians.
Peter has adopted the children of Zareinu, a learning centre for children with disabilities and he is
an active supporter of a range of community groups in his riding of Thornhill.
When not fighting for his constituents in the Legislature
or meeting with them in Thornhill, Peter is an active sports enthusiast; he is
a licensed SCUBA diver, an avid golfer and an instrument-rated pilot who flies
his own airplane.
Peter and his wife Carole raised their two, now adult
sons in Thornhill and he is proud to represent what is arguably Canada's most
diverse constituency.
